| About Us The Highland Redevelopment Commission, a five member board appointed by the Town Council, is responsible for the redevelopment of Highland. This involves land, structure, and infrastructure improvement as well as business attraction and retention. Incorporated on April 4, 1910, the Downtown area was guided through a transition from a solidly retail corridor to a splendid mix of shops, entertainment and eateries. The Redevelopment Commission's attention to aesthetics and planning has allowed Highland to nurture its Downtown as a retail destination in the community. Completed in 2003, the final three stage improvement aimed at upgrading the infrastructure and retrofitting the Downtown streetscape for more commercial development. Currently, the Commission is involved in several short-term, medium-term, and long-term projects designed to positively impact Highland. Projects include Ad Towers, Best House on the Block Contest, Redevelopment District Loan Program, and the development of a Comprehensive Plan for the Redevelopment District. The Redevelopment Commission has also developed a joint series of Beautification Programs with the Highland Library and Purdue Calumet. The intent of this series is to provide information, tips, and examples of ways to improve the curb appeal of homes in Highland. |
