Employee will experience a high degree of public and co-worker interaction. In all cases of resident and fellow worker contact, Meter Reader will exhibit a professional decorum and a positive outlook in the performance of the meter reader’s duties. The position involves use of a hand held meter-reading computer computer, and its computer application licensed to the Town from a proprietary vendor. Candidate should possess excellent interpersonal communication skills, a willingness to work outdoors in a variety of weather and environmental conditions. Candidate should be able to regularly perform walking. Work schedule generally involves forty (40) or more hours a week, scheduled two weeks a month. You may be scheduled 11 to 14 days a month for meter reading. The position’s Department Head is the Clerk-Treasurer. The position’s General Supervisor is the Deputy Clerk-Treasurer. The position’s Immediate (first line) Supervisor is the Deputy Clerk-Treasurer. This position is non-exempt for the purposes of the Fair Labor Standards Act. At present, working hours are Monday thru Friday, from 8:15 am to 4:45 pm. Under current terms, employees have a half hour for lunch, which is non-paid, and one 15-minute break for each four hours of work. Total hours worked during the bi-weekly (2-week) pay period is approximately 40-50 hours. Under the Fair labor Standards Act, because these breaks are less than twenty (20) minutes in duration, employees are paid for this time. Further pursuant to current terms, these breaks may be taken at other times with the permission of the Department head. Meter Readers are required to provide their own transportation to and from the worksite and are entitled to mileage at the rate allowed by the IRS.
